Taipei, July 14 (CNA) President Tsai Ing-wen said on Saturday that making reforms for the next generation and Taiwan is an objective that will not be changed, and declared that the chaos and difficulties faced during the pension reform process have passed.
"Making reforms for the next generation" will be the focus of discussion at the National Congress of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DDP) on Sunday, though there was no mention of what "reforms" will be on the agenda.
Forwarding a video released on Saturday by the DDP ahead of the party meeting, Tsai said on Facebook that she was obliged to carry out reforms and will keep pursuing them because "it is what we promised to the next generation."
The 30-second video covers the process of cutting the pensions of Taiwan's teachers, civil servants, and military servicemen, and highlights it as a task that was discussed but left undone by former presidents Chen Shui-bian and Ma Ying-jeou.
"People talk about it (the pension reform), but only we have done it," the video boasts.
Taiwan has averted the crisis of pension bankruptcy, and moved in the direction of social solidarity, an outcome that will be shared by all of Taiwan's people, the president said on Facebook.
