Asuncion, Aug. 14 (CNA) President Tsai Ing-wen arrived in Paraguay on Tuesday morning local time, where she will attend the inauguration of President-elect Mario Abdo Benitez on her three-day stay in the South American nation.

Tsai was greeted at the airport by Paraguayan Foreign Minister Eladio Loizaga, Taiwan's Ambassador to Paraguay Diego Chou and hundreds of Taiwanese expatriates living in the country.

Shortly after her arrival, Tsai will join outgoing President Horacio Cartes at a ceremony to mark the opening of a technology university jointly established by the two countries, where she will also witness the donation of Acer tablet computers.

Taiwan and Paraguay signed an agreement in December 2017 to jointly establish the university to train engineering talent.

Paraguay paid for the construction of the school while Taiwan provided teachers, curriculum plans and laboratory equipment.

Later in the evening, she will also hold talks with the president-elect.

On Wednesday, Tsai will attend the inauguration of President-elect Benitez and Vice-President-elect Hugo Velázquez.

From Paraguay, she will head to Belize, where she will be decorated by Governor-General Colville Young and meet with Prime Minister Dean Barrow.
