Taipei, Sept. 20 (CNA) Taiwan's National Policy Agency (NPA) and the Nauru Police Force (NPF) signed an agreement to jointly combat cross-border crime Thursday.
NPA Director-General Chen Ja-chin and his Nauru counterpart, NPF Commissioner Corey Caleb, inked the cooperation agreement on behalf of their respective countries.
Addressing the occasion, Chen said the two countries will step up two-way exchanges on intelligence, enhancement of professional skills and technical assistance, in an effort to more effectively fight increasingly diverse cross-border criminal activities.
Since 2016, Taiwan has signed similar agreements with a number of its diplomatic allies including eSwatini, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Palau, Belize, the Solomon Islands and Saint Lucia, he said.
The Republic of Nauru is one of Taiwan's 17 diplomatic partners.
The signing ceremony was held during the 2018 International Forum on Police Cooperation -- Combating Transnational Telecommunications Fraud, which took place in Taipei Sept. 19-20.
