Taipei, Sept. 20 (CNA) President Tsai Ing-wen Thursday reiterated her resolve to make Taiwan nuclear free, stressing that the country is on the path to realizing the goal by 2025, the Presidential Office said in a statement.
"To achieve the aim, Taiwan is poised to develop renewable resources and hopes to learn from the successful experience of Britain in terms of energy and electricity transformation," Tsai was quoted by the Presidential Office as saying in a welcome speech to Richard Oliver Faulker, Lord Faulkner of Worcester, UK trade envoy to Taiwan, during a meeting.
Over the long-term, Britain has played a leadership role in the development of offshore wind energy across the world and has set a goal of expanding the capacity of its offshore wind power plants from 6.9GW to 30GW by 2030, Tsai said approvingly.
Calling for more cooperation with Britain to develop renewable resources and increase exchanges in green energy, she thanked Faulker for his suggestions and encouragement in the field, according to the Presidential Office.
Tsai envisions that all the nuclear power plants in Taiwan will be decommissioned as scheduled by 2025, when renewable energy, mainly offshore wind and photovoltaic energy, is expected to account for 20 percent of the overall national power generation.
