Taiwan's Chou Tien-chen reaches semifinals at Badminton China Open

Taipei, Sept. 21 (CNA) Taiwanese badminton player Chou Tien-chen advanced to the semifinals of the men's singles at the 2018 China Open after defeating Son Wan-ho of South Korea 21-17, 21-14 in straight games Friday.

In a match that lasted 39 minutes, Chou, ranked fifth in the world, was the first to settle, going on a run of six consecutive points during the first game, which he won 21-17.

In the second game, Chou stepped up the pressure on Son, ranked number seven in the world, taking another six consecutive points and winning the game 21-14.

Chou now faces Indonesian Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, ranked 13th in the world, in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Taiwan men's doubles pair Chen Hung-ling and Wang Chi-lin also advanced into the semifinals after defeating He Jiting and Tan Qiang of China in a hard fought match 19-21, 21-12, 22-20.

Chen and Wang face Danish pair Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen in the semifinals.

The US$1 million 2018 China Open is a Badminton World Federation World Tour Super 1000 tournament, held Sept. 18-23 in Changzhou, China.
