Taipei, Nov. 17 (CNA) Taiwanese who apply for Canadian visas will be asked to submit biometric information including fingerprints and a photograph at the Canada visa application center (CVAC) in Taiwan from Dec. 31, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).
The new rule came into effect on July 31 for applicants from Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and will apply to applicants from Asia, Asia Pacific, and the Americas from Dec. 31. It will also apply to multiple types of visas, including study permits, work permits, permanent residence or asylum in Canada, MOFA said.
MOFA noted whether applicants apply online or submit hard copy applications, they will still have to register their biometric information at the CVAC office in Taiwan, which is located in Xinyi District, downtown Taipei City.
MOFA added that people applying for Canadian electronic travel authorization (eTA) are not required to provide biometric information and the new rule does not apply to applicants aged under 14 or over 79.
