Taipei, Nov. 27 (CNA) Taiwanese poet Lin Juei-ming , the first director of the National Museum of Taiwan Literature, died Monday at his home at the age of 68, the museum said Tuesday.
Su Shuo-bin , the current director of the Tainan-based museum, led the museum's staff in a moment of silence to mourn Lin.
Lin, also known by his pen names Lin Fan and Lin Tui-ying , was born in 1950 in Tainan. He was a poet, author and critic, as well as a researcher in history and the history of literature, He served as the first director of the Taiwan literature museum 2003-2005.
Lin retired from his job as a professor of history at National Cheng Kung University in 2015 due to kidney disease. Despite his poor health, he still often took part in social activities.
He appeared at a ceremony in October when Su assumed his post as the museum's new director and attended evaluation committee meetings on submissions of the Taiwan Literature Awards.
Lin devoted himself to promoting indigenous literature and took particular care of indigenous writers. The indigenous-style vest he usually wore was part of his clothing essentials.
An excerpt of poetry written in 1914 by Loa Ho , a classical Taiwanese poet, collected in one of Lin's publications has been used in the 2018 spring festival couplets distributed by the Presidential Office.
