aipei, Dec. 8 (CNA) Chiang Pin-kung, former chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF), was rushed to a nearby hospital late Saturday evening after collapsing suddenly at dinner in a hotel restaurant in Taipei.
He was at Regent Taipei before been admitted to Mackay Memorial Hospital in Taipei at around 8:30 p.m.
According to Chinese-language Apple Daily, Chiang managed to regain consciousness after undergoing emergency treatment, but currently remains in the hospital's intensive care unit.
As of press time, Mackay refused to provide any information on the matter, citing respect for the patient's privacy.
Chiang, 85, is chairman of the SEF from 2008 to 2012 before becoming head of the Straits Economic & Cultural Interchange Association.
He had also held several high-level positions within the government, including vice president of the Legislative Yuan from 2002-2005, and Minister of Economic Affairs from 1993-1996.
