Taipei, Dec. 13 (CNA) A workshop organized by Taiwan and the United States will be held in the central county of Nantou on Friday to train professionals in the Indo-Pacific region in the areas of disaster relief and humanitarian assistance, the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) said Thursday.

The workshop will be held Friday under the U.S-Taiwan Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF) framework, the AIT said in a statement.

The participants will include some of the people who took part in a three-day training session in Taipei that ended Thursday, the AIT said, referring to a disaster management forum for professionals from 12 countries across the Indo-Pacific to better integrate the disaster response of the private, civil, and public sectors.

Organized jointly by Taiwan's National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR) and the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI- APCSS), the three-day-workshop allowed its participants to analyze the disaster response areas identified by the United Nations Cluster Approach and sought opportunities to mobilize new actors and improve regional response, the AIT said.

The upcoming one-day workshop will be held at the National Fire Agency's Training Center in Nantou, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Since the establishment of the GCTF in 2015 to allow the U.S. and Taiwan to address regional and global concerns, they have brought together experts, government officials, and civil society leaders from over two dozen countries for 10-plus workshops on public health, women's empowerment, media literacy, law enforcement, and the digital economy, among other topics, according to the AIT.
