The overseas compatriot community in the Kansai region of Japan has established a care and assistance network, the “Taiwanese Emergency Assistance Association of Kansai Area in Japan.” This is the 65th such association of which the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) has assisted to be established globally. OCAC Minister Wu Hsin-hsing thanked the association’s Founding President Wen Xi-zhi for taking on the heavy responsibility. Wu hopes that the care and assistance associations and overseas compatriot communities around the world will work together to form a network that ensures the safety of Taiwanese nationals when they are overseas.

Wen stated that the “Taiwanese Emergency Assistance Association of Kansai Area in Japan” has been formed by representatives assigned by various overseas compatriot groups. He thanked Minister Wu for the assistance and encouragement of the OCAC. He further said that, in future, the association will help the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office in Osaka handle emergency cases involving Taiwanese nationals. He also said that since emergency assistance is by no means an easy task, he hopes that the overseas communities can unite and work together to carry it out effectively.

Since 2017, the OCAC has encouraged the establishment of emergency assistance associations in major cities around the world, using overseas compatriots’ personnel connections in the fields such as law, medicine and business, to form a protective network not only for Taiwanese but also for overseas compatriots. Prior to the Taiwanese Emergency Assistance Association of Kansai Area in Japan, 64 such associations had been established in 30 countries around the world. The Taiwanese Emergency Assistance Association of Kanto Area in Japan was set up in 2017; the care and assistance association established recently in the Kansai region marks the 65th such association.
