Ming Chuan University held a Lunar New Year Banquet for overseas compatriot students on March 9. Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) Minister Wu Hsin-hsing was in attendance, celebrating Lunar New Year together with almost 400 overseas compatriot students who study at the university and teachers. Minister Wu exhorted the students to study hard, boldly chase their dreams and shine brightly in the future.

Wu said that Ming Chuan University was the first university in Taiwan to begin internationalizing and now has more than 4000 overseas compatriot and foreign students, more than any other university in Taiwan; the school also has more than 100,000 overseas alumni who perform outstandingly in various fields.

Wu said that the OCAC cares about the career development of overseas compatriot students who stay in Taiwan after graduation and has set up the Overseas Compatriot Student Services to provide various consulting services. In future, if overseas compatriot students want to stay in Taiwan to set up a company, the OCAC can provide up to NT$12 million venture capital; those who want to return to their original place of residence to start a business can also apply for up to US$2 million credit guarantee from the Overseas Credit Guarantee Fund (Taiwan) and then use it to take a loan out with a local financial institution.

President of Ming Chuan University Lee Chuan thanked the OCAC for supporting overseas compatriot education. The students also laid on splendid xiang sheng cross-talk and singing performances that received loud applause.
