Taipei, March 20 (CNA) Taiwan can be proactive as it pursues an indispensable role in the world community, President Tsai Ing-wen said Wednesday in a Facebook post in which she listed some of Taiwan's major accomplishments in foreign affairs.
One the eve of a visit to Taiwan's Pacific allies, Tsai highlighted three main events, in a post headed "Eating minced pork with rice while having foreign affairs accomplishments as a side dish."
She made mention first of the "Indo-Pacific Democratic Governance Consultations," which were launched jointly by Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the American Institute in Taiwan on March 19.
Tsai also noted that U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo talked about Taiwan's contribution to democracy during a Micronesia summit in Palau in late February and that the delegates issued a joint communiqué in support of Taiwan's participation in the forum.
The third event Tsai highlighted was a two-day forum titled "Civil Society Dialogue on Securing Religious Freedom in the Indo-Pacific Region," which Taiwan hosted last week, becoming the first nation in the region to do so.
Tsai said those three accomplishments relayed a message to the international society that Taiwan has a strong partnership with the United States and has formally becomes an important partner for democracy in the Indo-Pacific Region.
Taiwan can be proactive as it seeks to play an indispensable role in the international community, she said, adding that she has been the one to lead the country in that direction.
President Tsai will depart Thursday on a one-week visit to Palau, Nauru and the Marshall Islands, where she will attend and international conference, and will make a stopover in Hawaii on the return leg of the her trip.
