Taipei, April 18 (CNA) The French Office in Taipei urged Taiwanese people to help restore the historic Notre Dame Cathedral, which was partly destroyed by fire on Monday, with the nation's de facto embassy in Taiwan sharing links to designated institutions that accept donations.

The office listed four government designated agencies or foundations on its Facebook page, namely: Centre des Monuments Nationaux, la Fondation Notre-Dame, la Fondation du Patrimoine and la Fondation de France, as recipients of donations for the reconstruction of Notre Dame Cathedral.

"We thank all the Taiwanese who expressed their emotion and support in the wake of the fire that devastated parts of Notre Dame in Paris," the Facebook post said.

It added that the French government designated the four institutions so that people who wish to help can donate in a transparent and secure manner.

The post further urged "let's restore Notre Dame Cathedral."

The 850-year-old cathedral was engulfed by flames on Monday causing its spire and roof to collapse in front of thousands of shocked onlookers. The blaze took about 15 hours to extinguish and French President Emmanuel Macron pledged to rebuild the Gothic masterpiece within five years.
