Taipei, June 16 (CNA) Taiwanese taekwondo athletes Huang Yu-jen and Lo Chia-ling   bagged golds after strong showings in their respective divisions at the Luxembourg Open 2019 on Sunday.

The tournament did not attract many of the top taekwondo stars, especially those from powerhouses South Korea and China, but Huang and Lo took care of business to give themselves a confidence boost.

Huang, a silver medalist at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, won the gold in the men's 68 kg division after easily defeating four opponents.

The top-seeded Taiwanese easily took down his first two opponents with scores of 20-0. He then defeated a Spanish foe 8-1 and beat a Greek rival in the final 28-1.

Huang, who went under the knife in January, is currently ranked ninth in the world in Olympic ranking points, the best of any Taiwanese Taekwondo athlete.

Lo, who won back-to back golds in the 2016 and 2018 editions of the World Taekwondo Junior Championships, again demonstrated her might in the women's 57 kg division.

As the second seed in the two-day tournament that began on June 15, she beat her four opponents by scores of 40-3, 20-0, 20-5 and finally 17-7 in the gold medal match.

The 18-year-old is ranked 19th in Olympic ranking points.
