Ming Chuan University’s 2018 Commencement was held on June 16. Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) Vice Minister Roy Yuan-Rong Leu attended the ceremony, along with the ambassadors of nine countries including Belize, the Solomon Islands and the Kingdom of Eswatini. The grand occasion was attended by over 2,000 students, teachers and parents.
Leu said that Ming Chuan University is one of Taiwan’s most internationalized universities. Due to the efforts in promoting international education of Chuan Lee, President of Ming Chuan University, the university is not only the only Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) certified university in Asia, it also ranks top in Taiwan for the number of international students and number of overseas students. Leu congratulated the 4000 plus graduating students and the 161 bachelor’s degree and one master’s degree overseas compatriot graduating students for successfully completing the solid education and training. They are now set to begin a new stage in their lives. He also called on the graduating students to adhere to the Ming Chuan tradition by planning their future with an international view and, in line with the government’s New Southbound policy, to work to deepen relations with ASEAN and Southeast Asian countries. He expressed the hope that more overseas compatriot students will come to Taiwan for further study. He hopes that the students can smoothly stay in Taiwan to show what they are capable of after graduation or make a contribution to local society if they choose to return to their place of residence.
Ming Chuan University began holding the Overseas Youth Vocational Training Workshop in 2005 and, to date, has nurtured 2233 overseas compatriot students. Overseas compatriot alumni in various countries have also become a powerful pro-Taiwan force, assisting the promotion of trade between governments, diplomatic relations, international cooperation and cultural exchange.
