On June 7, Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) Minister Wu Hsin-hsing was received by President Mario Abdo Benitez of the Republic of Paraguay and First Lady Ms. Silvana López Moreira, and then visited Paraguay’s overseas community affairs agency; after witnessing the donation of information equipment by Dr. Diego L. Chou, Ambassador of the R.O.C. (Taiwan) to Paraguay, Minister Wu flew to Ciudad del Este to visit the overseas community there.

On the morning of June 8, accompanied by Consul General K.P. Chen of the R.O.C. (Taiwan) in C.D.E. and Commissioner of the OCAC, C.H. Chiang, Minister Wu visited Dr. Sun Yat Sen School (Colegio Dr. Sun Yat Sen,) the Taiwanese Association in Paraguay (Taiwan Asociación,) the Chinese Association - C.D.E. Paraguay (Asociación China-C.D.E. Paraguay) and other overseas compatriots groups. Due to the heavy traffic that day, Minister Wu and his group walked instead of travelling by car. Due to the hilly nature of the city, he joked that it was a real test of fitness. The overseas compatriots of Ciudad del Este were impressed by his closeness to the people.

Wu headed first to Dr. Sun Yat Sen School where he exhorted the students to diligently study traditional Chinese characters and also welcomed them to visit Taiwan in future for higher study or observation and exchange in future should the opportunity arise. He then proceeded to the Taiwanese Association in Paraguay where, in a speech, he stated that the development of democratic society depends on mutual understanding and tolerance; he said the same applies to the overseas community; regardless of party affiliation, everyone should  defend Taiwan and  adhere to the universal values of freedom, democracy and human rights.

Minister Wu and his group passed the shopping mall and down wide roads and narrow lanesto reach the Chinese Association – C.D.E. Paraguay. He affirmed the contribution of the Association over many years and hoped that, in future, it can hold more events for all overseas compatriots to guide the members of the overseas community in Ciudad del Este to prosper together with unity and harmony.
