ROC President Tsai Ing-wen’s “Journey of Freedom, Democracy and Sustainability” stoped by New York City, United States. On the evening of July 12, accompanied by Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) Minister Wu Hsin-hsing, President Tsai held a banquet in Manhattan that was attended by more than 1000 overseas compatriots. The huge turnout showed the unity of the New York overseas community and its firm support for ROC (Taiwan). 

In her speech, President Tsai said that this was her first visit to New York as president of the ROC and that her aim was to allow Taiwan to go out into the world. For many years, overseas compatriots have been the biggest supporters for Taiwan, she said. She hopes that US overseas compatriots can continue to be united to build a better future for Taiwan together. 

Minister Wu stated that, in the course of national development, overseas compatriots all over the world have always played an important role. The government’s overseas community affairs work is always guided by the idea of making no distinction between political party or ethnic group, every overseas compatriots who support the ROC and love freedom and democratic Taiwan are the people OCAC seeks to serve. The outstanding achievements of the overseas compatriots of the New York area are particularly remarkable. Their traditional Chinatown has over 100 years of history and tradition, he said. 

Minister Wu exhorted overseas compatriots to continue to support the government and assist Taiwan develop high quality civil diplomacy to further the wellbeing of the Taiwanese people and therefore gain more support internationally; he also called on them to support the promotion of government policies to invigorate the Taiwanese economy and talent exchange to be the most powerful backup for the country.
