Minister Wu called on the leading figures from traditional overseas compatriot communities to continue exerting influence after returning to their place of residence to win more support and acceptance for Taiwan in the US.

Led by Jong Liang Chen, a delegation from the Shun Yi Association of North America visited the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) on the afternoon of August 8 and was received by Minister Wu Hsin-hsing.

Minister Wu said that the members of this delegation are all overseas compatriot leaders from the Gee How Oak Tin Association and Shun Yee Oak Tin Association across North America. The Shun Yi Association of North America brings the clan closer and engages in public benefit activities in overseas communities and has made an outstanding contribution; in particular, in terms of upholding the idea of “The world will be shared by all and the world will be one” of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, it has always adhered to the principles of freedom and democracy and maintained close relations with the ROC government. He emphasized that the ROC government attaches great importance to traditional overseas communities, and he believes that by insisting on freedom, democracy, human rights and peace, the ROC can win more support from overseas compatriots and in US political circles.

Jong Liang Chen said that due to the effort of the OCAC, many overseas community leaders of the Shun Yee Oak Tin Association like to visit Taiwan more and more. He said, the policy of attracting Taiwanese entrepreneurs back to Taiwan, as well as democracy and national defense,  will be one of the driving forces of economic growth in future and Taiwan will once again head “the four Asian tigers.” The world’s overseas compatriots will thus be full of confidence towards the ROC, he said.
