Taipei, Oct. 19 (CNA) Taiwan badminton ace Tai Tzu-ying is just one match away from retaining the women's singles title at the Denmark Open, after her Chinese opponent pulled out of their semifinal on Saturday due to injury.
The World No. 1 Tai, who has not lost a single game since the tournament began on Tuesday, toppled Chen Yufei of China 21-14, 14-11 in 32 minutes.
Chen sprained her right ankle in the second game while chasing a smash shot at 11-12, but still managed to survive two more points before retiring.
Tai will play Japan's Nozomi Okuhara in the final Sunday.
On the same day, Taiwanese Wang Chi-lin and Cheng Chi-ya had their dream of a final spot in the mixed doubles ended, succumbing to Indonesians Praveen Jordan and Melati Daeva Oktavianti 12-21, 12-21 in the semifinal.
Their fate was shared by Taiwanese Lu Ching-yao and Yang Po-han, who failed to make the final of the men's doubles after losing 16-21, 11-21 in the semifinal to Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, also from Indonesia.
The Denmark Open is part of the BWF World Tour Super 750 and is being held in Odense from Oct. 15-20.
