Taipei, Dec. 11 (CNA) Taiwan's southernmost counties of Pingtung and Taitung will be the first locations on the island of Taiwan to welcome the sun on New Year's Day, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Wednesday.

The sunrise will appear in Eluanbi in Pingtung and Sanxiantai in Taitung at 6:35 a.m., according to the bureau.

Dongqing Village on Orchid Island located off the main island's southeastern coast, will see the first sunrise in the country two minutes earlier at 6:33 a.m., the CWB said.

Meanwhile, the last sunset of 2019 visible from Taiwan proper will sink below the horizon at 5:25 p.m., and can be viewed in Anping District in Tainan and Qijin District in Kaohsiung, the CWB forecast.

The final sunset of 2019 nationwide will occur at 6:11 p.m. over Taiwan-controlled Taiping Island in the South China Sea, according to the CWB.

The exact timing of a sunrise or sunset will depend on a location's atmospheric conditions and altitude, the CWB added, so those who wish to film such events should be ready 10 minutes prior to the predicted time.
