Taipei, Jan. 17 (CNA) Electric scooter producer Gogoro has made the prestigious Global Cleantech 100 for the third time and is the only Taiwanese company to make this year's list.

In the 2020 Global Cleantech 100, released Thursday, Gogoro earned a spot in the Transportation and Logistics category, and was praised for having operating models and vehicles that are particularly effective for fleets and for the sheer scale of many Asian and emerging markets.

In a statement released Friday, Gogoro, which has developed battery swapping infrastructure to power its scooters, said its selection reflected its efforts to promote the use of cleaner energy and smarter ways to travel.

Gogoro co-founder and CEO Horace Luke was cited as saying in the statement that environmental pollution caused by global warming and climate change has had a major effect on the world, leading to a new focus on clean technologies and energy.

With the world rapidly embracing the use of electric vehicles, Taiwan could not avoid the trend, and with Gogoro's help, it has now become one of the fastest growing electric scooter industry, Luke said.

The 2020 Global Cleantech 100 is the 11th edition of the annual guide to the leading companies and themes in sustainable innovation.

It features the private, independent and for-profit companies best positioned to contribute to a more digitized, de-carbonized and resource-efficient industrial future and make an impact on the market, according to the U.S.-based Cleantech Group, which produces the list.

In total, more than 8,000 companies from more than 80 countries were nominated for this year's Global Cleantech 100.

Nominees were weighted and scored to create a short list of 322 companies reviewed by the 80 members of the group's expert panel, the Californian company said.
