Jakarta, Jan. 17 (CNA) Taiwan's Lee Yang and Wang Chi-lin saw their run for the men's doubles title at the Indonesia Masters end abruptly after they lost to their Indonesian opponents in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Lee and Wang, both young players in their early 20s, were beaten 21-9, 15-21, 19-21 in a tug-of-war match against Mohammed Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan, both seeded second in the Jakarta tournament.

The pair were the only Taiwanese players to have made it to the quarterfinals in the Indonesian Masters this year. Veteran players Chou Tien-chen and Wang Tzu-wei lost in the first two rounds.

Taiwanese badminton ace Tai Tzu-ying, meanwhile, chose to skip this year's Jakarta tournament, which is the second biggest badminton championship of the year and a Super 500 World Tour event.

According to a December report by online sporting website Badmintonplanet, Tai opted out of the Indonesia Masters as part of her 2020 schedule to prepare for and concentrate on the upcoming Tokyo Olympics in July.

Her father has revealed that her coaches would only let her play in some important tournaments this year, the report said.

The Indonesia Masters, which comes with a total purse of US$400,000, will be held until Sunday.
