Taipei, March 27 (CNA) A student at National Chengchi University (NCCU) has contracted the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19), while two others have been quarantined at home, the university confirmed Friday.

The student, who tested positive after returning from an exchange study trip to Europe, was among 17 new coronavirus cases announced by the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) on Thursday, without revealing their identities.

According to NCCU President Kuo Ming-cheng, the student has been under home quarantine since returning to Taiwan and had not been to the campus.

As to two other students in home quarantine, Kuo said one of them went into self quarantine after passengers on the same flight to Taiwan were confirmed as having contracted COVID-19. He added that the student had not visited the NCCU campus.

The other student, who lived in a rented house off-campus, was required to undergo home quarantine after his roommate was diagnosed with the coronavirus, Kuo said, adding that the student had attended one class before being put in quarantine.

Also Friday, NCCU, National Taiwan University and Fu Jen Catholic University announced that all non-students and staff will be banned from their campuses in an attempt to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
