Taipei, April 4 (CNA) Two more members of a 17-person tour group to Austria and the Czech Republic were confirmed as having contracted the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) Saturday, bringing the group's cluster infections to eight, the Central Epidemic Control Center (CECC) said that day.

The two individuals from the group that traveled from March 5-14 showed no symptoms, said Chuang Jen-hsiang, deputy director-general of the Centers for Disease Control and CECC spokesman.

It was not until the CECC learned that six members of the tour group were already infected, including one death, that it recalled all group members for a COVID-19 test and identified the two new cases.

The two patients had developed pulmonary infiltration, Chuang said, adding that the other nine members are still being tested.

Doctors may sometimes need to depend on X-rays or CT scans to determine whether patients have pneumonia since mild symptoms could be overlooked, Chuang said.

The two cases found around noon were not immediately included in the seven new cases announced by the CECC Saturday as the center is still waiting to conduct a full review of the specimens.

Seven new cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus disease were confirmed in Taiwan that day, bringing the total in the country to 355 since the pandemic began late last year.

In addition, on Saturday the center also included diarrhea for unidentified reasons on its list of possible COVID-19 symptoms that require extra attention from frontline doctors.

Meanwhile, a COVID-19 patient identified earlier this week, who works as a security guard at an apartment complex, likely contracted the disease at work instead of at home because she lives in a remote mountainous area and rides a motorcycle to work, the CECC said.

A woman from a nearby neighborhood, who had contact with the female security guard, was later confirmed with the virus. 

The two have come into contact with 142 people, with six of them being tested, the CECC said.
