Taipei, May 30 (CNA) Taipei will begin to lift its coronavirus restrictions across all venues except hospitals, traditional markets and public transport starting June 7, Mayor Ko Wen-je said Saturday.

However, in keeping with the guidelines of the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC), members of the public will still need to give their names and contact details at certain indoor venues, Ko added.

At venues where social distancing is hard to follow, wearing a face mask will be required, he told reporters at an event in Taipei.

Meanwhile, Taipei City Hall will lift crowd control measures at entrances on June 1, the city government said, though frontline employees are still advised to wear face masks while at work.

Applications to hold events at Taipei Arena, a multipurpose stadium in the city, will be processed from June 7.

According to Taipei Rapid Transit Corp. (TRTC), which operates the facility, applicants will receive a 50 percent discount for events and activities organized before the end of the year.

However, organizers must agree to cancel or postpone an event should there be a change in the COVID-19 situation in Taiwan, TRTC said.

In addition, customers must wear face masks, have their temperature taken and leave their contact details when attending events, it added.
