Taipei, June 5 (CNA) Over 100 Taiwanese nationals stranded in Poland due to the COVID-19 pandemic will return to Taiwan on a charter direct flight from Warsaw Sunday, the Polish Office in Taipei said in a statement released Friday.

On June 7 "for the first time in history, the first direct charter flight from PLL LOT Warsaw-Taoyuan will arrive in Taiwan," said the office, which represents Polish interests in Taiwan in the absence of diplomatic links between the two nations.

A total of 118 Taiwan citizens will be aboard the flight, the first-ever direct passenger flight between Taiwan and Poland, the office said, noting that the flight is scheduled to arrive at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport at 5:50 a.m. Sunday.

The historic flight by LOT Polish Airlines -- Poland's flag carrier -- was made possible by Lin's International Consulting Co., Ltd., an overseas student professional service, the statement said.
