Taipei, July 10 (CNA) Taiwanese travelers to all four constituent countries of the United Kingdom will no longer need to self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival beginning Friday, a spokesperson for Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said.

On Thursday, Wales and Northern Ireland included Taiwan on their list of countries or regions considered to be at low risk for COVID-19, meaning travelers from those places are exempt from the U.K.'s 14-day isolation requirement.

The measure followed similar announcements by England and Scotland early this month.

The exemption is not applicable to Taiwanese travelers who have been in countries or areas that are not on the U.K.'s list of low-risk countries and regions 14 days before their arrival.

MOFA spokesperson Joanne Ou praised the easing of border controls for Taiwanese nationals as recognition of Taiwan's success in controlling the spread of the coronavirus.
