Taipei, Aug. 3 (CNA) All Nippon Airways (ANA) partially resumed round-trip flights between Tokyo and Taipei on Monday, nearly three months after suspending the route due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the airline, around 50 passengers boarded the 10:05 a.m. flight departing from Haneda Airport, which touched down at Taipei Songshan Airport at 12:30 p.m., while about 100 passengers boarded the return flight to Japan at 1:30 p.m., which is scheduled to land at 5:45 p.m local time.

The Japanese carrier plans to operate two round-trip flights per week -- on Mondays and Fridays -- between Tokyo and Taipei using a Boeing 787-8, in response to demand from Japanese business travelers and Japanese living in Taiwan, it said.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Japan currently bans the entry of foreign nationals from a list of 146 countries and regions, including Taiwan. Everyone entering Japan is required to be quarantined for 14 days at a designated location.
