Taipei, Aug. 9 (CNA) Volunteer translators from Southeast Asia, who live in Taiwan and work with the National Immigration Agency (NIA), were given a special tour of National Palace Museum Sunday in their native languages, according to a press statement released by the NIA that day.

As part of a partnership with the museum on cultural events for new immigrants, the agency's Taipei City Service Center said 50 plus volunteer translators took a guided tour in Vietnamese and Indonesian.

According to the museum, it began recruiting volunteers to give guided tours in Thai, Vietnamese and Indonesian last year in order to reach a wider group of visitors.

Windy Goenawan, who comes from Indonesia and is married to an Indonesian man she met when both were studying at Tamkang University, said she signed up for the museum's guided tour program because she had spare time after her children went to school.

It is a joy to admire the historic artifacts in the museum, she said.

One of the artifacts she introduced to the visitors on the guided tour was the Ding cauldron to Ji from his grandson, an 81.8-centimeter piece from China's Bronze age estimated to have been created between the 13th and 11th centuries B.C.E.

Pham Thi Nguyet, another volunteer on the museum's guided tour team, finished university in Taiwan and became a licensed tour guide.

Pham said she especially enjoys introducing the celadon bowl with lotus pattern from the Song dynasty to Vietnamese visitors because the flower is very popular in her country.

In addition to the guided tour, the visitors also learned how to make a snuff bottle, which is the theme of one of the museum's current exhibitions, according to the NIA.
