Taipei, Sept. 17 (CNA) Taiwanese singer-songwriter Crowd Lu, Taiwanese-American TV personality Janet Hsieh and Taiwan's top male gymnast Lee Chih-kai are among the winners of this year's 10 Outstanding Young Persons Awards, according to results released Thursday.

The award, which is in its 58th edition, is organized by Junior Chamber International Taiwan and honors Taiwanese nationals aged 20-40 who have had exceptional achievements in various fields.

Although the name of the award implies 10 people are honored annually, the actual number of winners fluctuates slightly from year to year, and 12 winners were selected in 2020.

The selection committee was headed by legislative speaker You Si-kun  this year.

Lu, who has won top accolades in Taiwan for his music and acting, was unable to attend the press conference on Thursday for the announcement, but expressed his gratitude at being nominated through his agent.

"It is truly an honor to be selected along with so many outstanding people. Though life is not always a bed of roses, I will continue to produce work that delivers positive energy," Lu's agent quoted him as saying.

Hsieh, who is currently shooting a TV show on Xiaoliuqiu island off Taiwan's southwestern coast, also couldn't attend the press conference, so her parents attended instead.

She said that she was delighted that her parents were able to be there, as they were both extremely excited about her win.

As a 40-year-old, this is the last year Hsieh is eligible for the award, and she jokingly thanked the judges for "regarding her as a young person."

Hsieh was raised in Texas and is best known in Taiwan for hosting the TV series Fun Taiwan and its spin-off Fun Taiwan Challenge.

Lee, the first gymnast in Taiwan to win the award, described the news as "unbelievable" and thanked his long-time coach Lin Yu-hsin  at the press conference on Thursday.

The award will serve as motivation for him to keep pushing himself, he said.

Lee has won numerous medals at major international sporting events, including the Universiade, Asian Games, Asian Gymnastics Championships and World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.

He will compete at next year's Tokyo Olympics.

Other winners this year include violinist Benny Tseng; Vivi Lin, founder of period advocacy group Little Red Hood; Miaoli county prosecutor Huang Chen-lun and Hsu Te-hua, an assistant professor at National Taiwan Ocean University.

Rounding out the list are Albert Liu , founder of AI company Kneron; Cheng Ho , who promotes the integration of sports in education through his company Choxue; David Chou, founder of AI company Deep01; Lin Yu-chun, an associate professor at Tsing Hua University and Huang Wei-hsiang, who promotes the value of vocational work through his organization Skills for U.

The awards ceremony is set to take place on Sept. 26, at the International Convention Center Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan.
