Taipei, Sept. 17 (CNA) Member states of the European Union will co-host an investment forum in Taipei on Sept. 22 to introduce Europe's investment environment to Taiwanese companies, the European Economic and Trade Office (EETO) in Taiwan announced Thursday.

"By investing in Europe, we create an added value in our relationship," said EETO head Filip Grzegorzewski, who stressed that the more interactions the two sides have, the closer their relations will be.

Grzegorzewski said that now is good time to go to Europe to tap the world's largest single market, with 450 million consumers, and to benefit from the free flow of capital, goods, people and services within the EU.

He added that Taiwanese businesses can further expand their markets through investing in EU member states, leveraging from the 41 trade agreements the regional bloc has signed with 72 countries around the globe.

For his part, Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu encouraged Taiwanese businesses to invest in the EU, a like-minded partner, and to strengthen the global supply chain security, especially in the fields of healthcare, 5th-generation technologies and green energy.

He said Taiwan has focused too heavily in some particular countries in terms of economic relations over the years and will actively seek more cooperation with Europe from now on.

The EU Investment Forum (EIF) is co-organized by EETO, EU member states, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), according to EETO.

The first-ever EU investment forum is set to take place at the Taipei International Convention Center, with President Tsai Ing-wen , Economics Minister Wang Mei-hua  and Wu expected to attend and deliver remarks.

The EU Parliament's Vice-Chair of the Committee on International Trade Luliu Winkler will tell potential Taiwanese investors via video links why they should invest in the EU.

Meanwhile, executives from different Taiwanese companies in Europe and experts from European investment agencies will give more details on investing in Europe in three panel discussions, focusing on ICT, mobility and automotive, and biotech and health respectively.

An exhibit on EU investment opportunities will also be held at the same venue, in which 15 EU Member States which have offices in Taiwan will showcase their local investment environment and business incentives.
