Taipei, Oct. 22 (CNA) 2020 Art Taipei, one of the largest art fairs of its kind in Asia, will get underway on Friday with a total of 77 gallery collections and standalone exhibitions on display.

Guests including Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌), Vice President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and Culture Minister Lee Yung-te (李永得) attended the show's opening ceremony Thursday at the Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall 1.

Taiwan Art Gallery Association (TAGA), the event organizer, said this year's show will include displays from 53 domestic galleries and 12 international galleries, as well as eight exhibitions of work by up-and-coming Taiwanese talents and four exhibitions showcasing Indigenous artists.

Eleven galleries will be attending for the first time, it added.

While many art events in cities around the world are being canceled, postponed or moved to a virtual format this year, Art Taipei is going forward as scheduled, thanks to the government's epidemic prevention efforts and the discipline of the Taiwanese people, said TAGA Chairman Chung Ching-hsin (鍾經新).

One of the highlights of this year's show, said Lai, is that it has partnered with the online fine arts marketplace Artsy, to ensure the works on display reach an international audience.

Also notable, he said, is the show's special section on Indigenous art, which includes individual exhibitions by three young artists and a collection of works on everyday life in Indigenous communities.

2020 Art Taipei will run from Oct. 23-26 at the Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall 1. Tickets are available on the Art Taipei website for NT$350 (US$12.19), or NT$300 for children and seniors.
