Taipei, Oct. 23 (CNA) Taiwan on Friday donated US$400,000 in disaster relief funds to Vietnam, after floods and landslides claimed more than 100 lives in recent weeks, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).

In a statement, MOFA said the donation was made by Richard R.C. Shih (石瑞琦), head of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam, on behalf of Taiwan's government, to Tran Quang Hoai, director general of the Vietnamese Disaster Management Authority under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Taiwanese businesses and non-governmental groups operating in Vietnam are actively working to help dispatch supplies to assist victims affected by the disasters, Shih said.

Tran thanked Taiwan and its people for their generous donation, saying the Vietnamese government will use the funds to help those in need.

According to MOFA, flooding and landslides caused by multiple storms and torrential rains have left 114 people dead and 20 others missing in central Vietnam since the end of September.
