New Taipei, Jan. 22 (CNA) New Taipei City Library on Friday announced that its bookmobile will offer books and magazines in the languages of six Southeast Asian countries from that day.

In a press release, the library said the more than 100 books, from Vietnam, Myanmar, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia, will improve access to reading materials for the city's new immigrant and migrant worker population.

The bookmobile has scheduled stops across New Taipei, including Shulin train station, MRT Cailiao Station, 823 Memorial Park in Zhonghe, Sunshine Sports Park in Xindian, the riverside park under Fuhe Bridge in Yonghe and the riverside park under Fuzhou Bridge in Banqiao, according to the library.

Liao Chen-yi (廖貞怡), a section manager in the library's collections department, said the New Taipei library system already carries a wide range of books from Southeast Asia, and has recently begun saving back issues of periodicals from the six countries to prepare for the new program.

The selection of foreign language materials in the bookmobile will change each season, based on the themes of "nostalgia for home" (January-March), "health and beauty" (April-May), "fashion and style" (June-July) and "literature" (September-December), the library said.

Foreign residents can sign up for a library card using their passport or alien resident certificate (ARC), the library said, adding that it would consider adding stops to the bookmobile's route if there is strong demand.
