Taipei, Jan. 22 (CNA) Taiwan's top badminton players had a largely successful day in the quarterfinals at the Toyota Thailand Open in Bangkok Friday, with only world No. 12 Wang Tzu-wei (王子維) failing to reach the semifinals.

World No. 7 pairing Lee Yang (李洋) and Wang Chi-lin (王齊麟) were the first Taiwanese players that day to secure a place in the men's doubles semifinals, after beating Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel of Germany 21-14, 21-12.

They will meet world No. 2 duo Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia on Saturday.

In the women's singles, world No. 1 Tai Tzu-ying (戴資穎) and No. 10 Michelle Li (李文珊) of Canada played their second quarterfinal match in a week, with the Thai capital hosting the second of three tournaments in three weeks.

After losing a tightly fought first game 18-21, Tai staged a strong comeback and won the second game 21-13.

Tai managed to maintain her momentum and won the third game 21-11 to reach the semifinals, where she will meet world No. 5 Ratchanok Intanon of the host nation.

Meanwhile, Taiwan's top two players in the men's singles -- world No. 2 Chou Tien-chen (周天成) and Wang Tzu-wei, faced off in the quarterfinals.

Chou, who won all seven of their previous meetings on the international circuit, gained another victory, winning the match 21-16, 21-16.
