The staff member was confirmed as having COVID-19 after receiving a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test Monday (U.S. Eastern time) and is now under home quarantine, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York said in a statement.
The last time the employee came to the office was on Feb. 18 and came into contact with a colleague on the same floor, it said, citing that the latter has since been ordered to be tested for COVID-19 while remaining in home quarantine.
According to the office, the latest patient is an isolated case and unrelated to the other staff member who was confirmed as having caught the disease on Feb. 16, as they worked on different floors.
The New York office will continue to operate on a rotational work schedule, while disinfection has already been carried out to prevent any further spread of the virus, the office said.
It was the third COVID-19 case the office has reported in the last three months since Nov. 26.
