Taipei, April 15 (CNA) Taiwan confirmed one new imported case of COVID-19 on Thursday, involving a Taiwanese girl under the age of 5, who recently returned from Indonesia, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said.

The child, who holds residency in Indonesia, developed a cough there on March 21, but it subsided after she was given medication, and she traveled to Taiwan with a family member a week later, the CECC said.

Shortly after they arrived in Taiwan, the child's relative tested positive for COVID-19, and the girl was tested twice for the disease, the CECC said.

The first test was negative, but the second one was positive, it said.

A different relative, who had been taking care of the child, has been asked to quarantine, according to the CECC.

To date, Taiwan has recorded 1,068 cases of COVID-19, 952 of which have been classified as imported. Of the total, 1,031 have recovered, 11 have died and 26 are in hospital, according to CECC statistics as of Thursday.

Globally, COVID-19 has infected over 137.8 million people in 193 countries and regions, with more than 2.9 million fatalities, CECC data shows.
