On the evening of April 15, President Tsai Ing-wen hosted a banquet at the presidential residence for a senior US delegation sent by President Joe Biden. President Tsai welcomed former US Senator Christopher Dodd, former Deputy Secretaries of State Richard Armitage and James Steinberg, and the other members of the delegation, with whom she discussed a range of issues important to our two countries.

President Tsai thanked the Biden administration for its continued strong support for Taiwan since taking office, and for sending a senior delegation to Taiwan on the 42nd anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act, which again demonstrates the rock-solid US commitment to a democratic Taiwan. The president also expressed hope that Taiwan and the US will keep working together on the basis of our existing partnership to continue deepening our cooperation, and to uphold peace, stability, development, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. While enjoying the banquet, the Taiwanese and US representatives exchanged views on regional issues, the global pandemic, economic and trade cooperation, and domestic political and economic developments in both countries.

Banquet attendees also included Vice President Lai Ching-te, Secretary-General to the President David T. Lee, National Security Council Secretary-General Wellington Koo, Executive Yuan Minister without Portfolio John C. C. Deng, Foreign Minister Joseph Wu, National Defense Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng, American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Taipei Office Director William Brent Christensen, AIT Taipei Office Deputy Director Raymond Greene, and US State Department Taiwan Coordination Office Director Dan Biers.
