The Chinese J-16 multirole fighter conducted a sortie in airspace southwest of Taiwan, between Taiwan and the Taiwanese-held Pratas Islands, according to the MND.
In response, Taiwan scrambled patrol aircraft and deployed air defense missile systems to monitor the aircraft's actions, the MND said.
The incursion came after the U.S. and Japan wrapped up a leaders' summit in Washington the previous day and issued a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
This drew the ire of Beijing, with China's embassy in the U.S. on Saturday criticizing the statement as "harmful to the interests of a third party, to mutual understanding and trust between regional countries, and to peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific."
An ADIZ is declared by a country to allow it to identify, locate and control approaching foreign aircraft, although such zones are not recognized under international law.
The MND began publicizing air activity in Taiwan's ADIZ on Sept. 17, 2020. A total of 82 Chinese military aircraft have entered Taiwan's ADIZ so far this month.
